Initially conceived as a kitchen remodel, the project evolved until a new heart of the home was found. Pinched between the original structure and an addition the old kitchen was a cramped thoroughfare, while an oversized entry, redundant circulation and an underused den lay nearby. A great room, containing the new kitchen, den and mudroom was created by combining the wasted spaces. The original kitchen was converted into a working pantry with a bar, overflow storage, second dishwasher and laundry machine.
