A big renovation on a tight, tight budget, relied on Ikea cabinets and butcher block slabs to reinvent the space. A non-bearing wall was removed to reunite the kitchen with the dining / living room space. New oak flooring knits into the existing to create a single room under a vaulted ceiling. An island clad in butcher block was designed to withstand the wear and tear of daily life while creating a place for breakfast on the run, cook books, a few bottles of wine and additional prep space for the evening meal.
